SurvivalPick analysis
Our assessment
The ER310 combines rechargeable-battery operation with hand-crank and solar charging, and a six-AA battery compartment gives it another backup option. These redundancies are useful, but solar and crank charging are typically supplemental rather than efficient ways to recharge a phone. Midland cautions that the radio's limited battery capacity may add very little charge to modern high-capacity phones.
It includes an LED flashlight, SOS beacon, headphone jack and USB output. The radio is useful at home and in a go-bag, but it cannot transmit messages or replace a GMRS, FRS or satellite communicator. Reception depends on geography, antenna placement and transmitter availability. Store it charged, maintain backup batteries and test local NOAA reception before storm season.
Research basis: Midland ER310 official user guide and FAQ, and. Midland documentation contains inconsistent battery-capacity figures; check the supplied battery label instead of relying on an assumed mAh value.
